TRILOGY ACTIVE ACHIEVES 'THE ACTIVE STANDARD' PROVIDING CUSTOMERS WITH CONFIDENCE AND TRUST IN THE SAFETY AND INCLUSIVENESS OF ITS FACILITIES
APRIL 2026
TRILOGY ACTIVE HAS OFFICIALLY ACHIEVED THE ACTIVE STANDARD, A CERTIFICATION THAT ALLOWS FITNESS AND LEISURE OPERATORS TO DEMONSTRATE THE SAFETY AND QUALITY OF THEIR FACILITIES
As a health and wellbeing trust, Trilogy Active operates Cripps Recreation Centre and Duston Sports Centre in Northampton, Belper Leisure Centre in Derbyshire and Berzerk Active Play Centres in Atherstone, Northampton, Derby and Birmingham .
“By becoming certified to The Active Standard, Trilogy Active is demonstrating its commitment to provide a safe, inclusive and high-quality service to its customers.” said John Fletcher, Managing Director of Trilogy Active. “All of our team work incredibly hard and we are proud of how that work has been recognised and to have been awarded this important national standard.”
The standard was designed by ukactive, the UK’s trade body for the physical activity sector, with support from leading standards professionals and organisations across the UK and Europe.
It aims to support all gyms, leisure centres, swimming pools and other sport and fitness facilities to raise standards and welcome more people to be active.
It means Trilogy Active has been assessed on its health and safety practices, professional standards, safeguarding procedures, and data protection processes, helping to give visitors and customers greater confidence when using its facilities.
“Demand for our nation’s fitness and leisure facilities is growing rapidly as more and more people across the UK prioritise physical activity for their health and wellbeing.” said Huw Edwards, CEO of ukactive. “The Active Standard will help more people to feel confident that they can enjoy all the benefits of being active in a safe and inclusive environment.”
The assessment was conducted by Right Directions, an independent third-party assessment body, against strict criteria. If an operator is running multiple sites, then a sample of these is assessed. The certification will last for three years before re-assessment is required.
The Active Standard has been carefully aligned with the industry’s other major schemes, FITcert and Quest, to ensure the sector continues to improve and grow.

A NORTHAMPTONSHIRE WIDE SCHEME, WHERE GPS AND HEALTH PROFESSIONALS CAN REFER PHYSICALLY INACTIVE PEOPLE INTO A TAILOR MADE EXERCISE PROGRAMME IS 'WORKING WONDERS' FOR LOCAL PEOPLE
‘Activity on Referral’ is delivered in the county by Trilogy Active who as a health and wellbeing trust, operate Cripps Recreation Centre and Duston Sports Centre in Northampton, Belper Leisure Centre in Derbyshire and Berzerk Active Play Centres in Northampton, Derby and Birmingham.
“If your GP or Health Professional feels your health or medical condition would benefit from you becoming more active, you could be referred to us here at Trilogy Active.” said John Fletcher, Managing Director of Trilogy Active.
“The scheme provides a 12-week programme of physical activity, delivered by qualified fitness professionals across our centres.”
Local Northampton resident Tinashe has recently shared his personal Activity on Referral journey to help promote the real difference it makes to the everyday lives of people.
“My GP asked me a few questions about my medical history. I told him one of them was high blood pressure which I know many people suffer from.” Tinashe said.
“He then referred me to Trilogy Active and the Activity on Referral programme. I want to say it has done wonders for me and it is ensuring that I achieve my goal.”
“It is great to read Tinashe’s story and to know our work together is making a real difference to his life and his well-being.” John Fletcher continued. “The programme starts with a consultation with a fitness instructor. They then design an exercise plan tailored to the needs of the individual.”
“This plan encourages a build up of weekly activity levels under the guidance of our instructors who understand the needs of people with health conditions and who know best the safest forms of exercise.”
Northampton resident Alan has also shared his story on the difference Activity on Referral has made to his life.
“I experienced weight gain after some ill health a number of years ago led to me becoming inactive.” Alan said.
“I also had a concerning blood glucose level result with a concern about the high risk of developing type two diabetes.”
“I knew I needed to take action and heard about the Activity of Referral scheme. Since attending I have lost 20kgs, my blood sugar levels have reduced, my sleeping habits have improved and I have changed my whole outlook on fitness.”
If you are a Northampton resident and think you are eligible for the scheme then you need to contact your GP practice and ask about being referred onto the programme.
Once referred onto the scheme by your GP, Practice Nurse or other Health Professionals you will be contacted by Trilogy Active to book a consultation with a fitness instructor.
The instructor will carry out some simple health checks, discuss your choice of activities and then provide a personalised exercise programme tailored to your goals, supporting you throughout the 12-week scheme with regular touch points to review progress and guide you along the way.

“The Better Breathing Course we deliver plays a fundamental role in the health and wellbeing of the local population.” John Flecther said. “Funded by Public Health Northamptonshire and delivered by us at Lings Forum this pilot programme was delivered to explore how we bridge the gap between the NHS pulmonary rehab programme which is delivered by clinicians and an AOR (Activity on Referral) gym membership.”

“That is why we are proud of our inclusion provision and the popularity, for example, that our SEND sessions at Berzerk Active Play have.”
SEND sessions at Berzerk Active Play are for families with special needs and disabilities. Whilst those families can visit anytime, the specific sessions take place every week and have music with a lower volume and a general quieter and more peaceful environment.
Trilogy Active prioritises investment in its staff and empowering those who want to enter a career of sports, health or fitness get the right employment and skills opportunities with the Trust.

I love that no two days are the same in my apprenticeship.”
“Our commitment to the environment in which we operate is a fundamental pillar of our wider responsibility to society and during the Seriously Social campaign we’ll be highlighting our efforts on this.” John Fletcher said.
At Belper Leisure Centre in Derbyshire, which Trilogy Active has operated successfully for over a year after the centre was at risk of closing, there are new energy saving LEDs in place, a pool cover to save heat and a new air handling unit.
“These important investment changes will provide a much more environmentally friendly use of our facilities for the local community that we serve.” said Managing Director John Fletcher.

The Trilogy Active Swim School at Weston Favell Academy takes please every Monday from 4.30pm and on Fridays from 4pm. It also covers Stages 1-7 and parking is free.
“Swimming lessons are becoming more popular than ever which is why at Trilogy Active we are delighted to be offering our Swim School from the West of Northampton, through the town centre and in the East of the town.” John Flecther continued.
Trilogy Active Swim School also operates from the popular Cripps Recreation Centre based at Northampton General Hospital in the town centre, along with Danes Camp, Mounts Baths and Lings Forum.
The Government’s Department for Education advises that all children should be able to swim, unaided 25m by the end of primary school and use a range of strokes effectively.
They should also be taught about water safety and that Water safety is a vital life skill.
“The health of our communities is more important than ever, and swimming is a fun way for all the family to keep fit and well.” John Fletcher said. “For too many communities’ access is often poor and travelling a long distance to a pool is just not realistic.”
“That is why Trilogy Active Swim School is incredibly valuable.” he added. “With centres across the town we are accessible for all and look forward to welcoming more and more people to join us.”
