Read our child behaviour policy
All of our activity instructors/coaches will manage behaviour by following a set of clear, consistent and positive strategies.
Behaviour management at all of our junior activities will be structured around the following principles:
The behavioural expectations apply equally to all children, staff and parents/guardians. Staff will outline the expectations to children at the start of each session.
Positive behaviour will be reinforced with praise and encouragement.
Challenging/inappropriate behaviour will be addressed in a calm but assertive manner immediately by the activity instructor/coach.
When dealing with challenging/inappropriate behaviour, staff will always communicate in a clear, calm and positive manner.
Staff will make every effort to set a positive example to children by behaving in a friendly and tolerant manner themselves, promoting an atmosphere where children and adults respect and value one another.
Children who experience bullying, racism, or other unacceptable behaviour will be actively encouraged to speak to a member of staff.
Physical punishment, such as smacking or shaking, will never be used. Children are never threatened with these.
Staff will always show consistency in their approach and attitude towards challenging and unacceptable behaviour and their approach towards the child and their parent/guardian.
Dealing with challenging/Inappropriate behaviour
3 Strike Warning System:
A child who behaves inappropriately will be told stop, reminded of the expectations and given a warning
If a child continues to demonstrate inappropriate behaviour, they will be reminded of the expectations again, given a second warning and asked to sit out of the activity for a short period in an attempt to calm them down. The parent/guardian will be informed on collecting the child
If a child receives a third and final warning they will be asked to sit out for the remainder of the session. The parent/guardian will be informed on collecting the child.
If inappropriate or negative behaviour continues, the child may be asked to leave the swimming lesson or active play session early. They will be encouraged to return the following week with a fresh approach and the opportunity to demonstrate positive behaviour and achieve success.
